Supporting Landowners Through Sydney’s Rapid Growth: Chris Maley Appointed Special Counsel
We’re pleased to share that Chris Maley has recently been appointed Special Counsel at Maclarens. This new role enables him to dedicate more time to the legal work he values most - assisting clients with property development, infrastructure acquisitions, and complex land transactions.
Chris has been a steady and trusted presence at Maclarens for over five decades, providing legal support to clients navigating an ever-changing property landscape. He remains full time in practice, continuing to offer guidance to developers, families, and businesses with property interests across New South Wales.
A Focus on Marsden Park and Badgerys Creek
Over recent years, Chris has been heavily involved in matters related to the Marsden Park and Badgerys Creek growth areas. These regions are undergoing significant change due to the North West Growth Area plans and the development of Western Sydney International Airport, respectively.
In both areas, many landowners are facing uncertainty as government-led infrastructure projects expand. Chris has supported numerous clients through:
- Land sales and subdivisions
- Planning advice during rezoning transitions
- Negotiating with acquiring authorities during compulsory acquisition processes
- Preparing evidence and expert reports for compensation claims
His practical, measured approach gives his clients reassurance during what can be a complex and often emotional process.
Helping Clients Navigate Government Acquisitions
With several major transport and infrastructure projects underway across Western Sydney, Chris is currently assisting landowners whose properties are being acquired by government agencies.
He works closely with clients to:
- Clarify timing and process expectations
- Review acquisition notices
- Provide access to reliable valuation and compensation experts
- Ensure that clients’ rights are clearly understood and protected
For landowners unfamiliar with the acquisition process, Chris helps cut through red tape and provides realistic advice grounded in decades of experience.
Commitment to Property Law Education
In addition to his legal practice, Chris has long supported the next generation of lawyers. He is an Adjunct Professor and currently teaches with fellow lawyer Dominic Maley at Western Sydney University and UTS, where they have helped develop key subjects in property and development law.
